Why cannot we bridge the gap and work for building Community in our classrooms?

Technology Integration — Teaching strategies — Activities involving kids to learn

Fed up by listening to all these things in the meetings and workplace. When it comes to our classrooms and curriculum, it is not at all aligned with what is written, what is delivered and what has to be followed. Assessments, grading systems and policies are just mere stuff our entire year passes with. Kids runs for grades, Teachers run to cover up syllabi, Management run for money minting — fees, transport, books, tours etc. And then by the time all these stuff gets over then comes the time where in the meetings we discuss in professional development courses thinking why the students behave in this way? Why are they not scoring? It’s all because of the planning and the goal to which majority of managements are not aligned with.

I feel the students are not taught the way they should be and the reason to which the kids are coming to school is not clearly well defined or informed. How many of them would answer appropriately, if you ask a question about their reason to come to school? That is to work for community, society or nation at large. I am sure only handful of them will. How well do they know about their community to which they belong to? Are they working for it? Do they know who lives nearby? What are their problems? How to help in distress? What could be done to elevate their mental well-being? How many families live in your neighborhood? Do you talk to them? The actual learning and grooming of the kids is kept later.

A positive step towards common goal in learning cultures and respect towards one another is bridging the gap between all of us. Develop respect for human being rather than one religion. We must have concerns for one another and work for the cause of shared cultures, grief, sorrows and work out plans pertaining to it. We have been raised with this perspective that a person’s goal should be to give back and work for communities, societies he/she lives in and the nations at large. This is something we as a human being must be proud of our upbringing and parenthood. But, are we really worried or concerned about our community that we live in? Every one of us is accountable for our own steps what have we done so far? What are the ways we could do more to uplift anyone who is in need of us and work for others and their own happiness to make this world a better place?

Possible Solutions and suggestions:

We need to think about this perspective and reach to the elites of the societies. How many people that we see or know in our communities who have gone up to the position that some of us thought would not be possible but, they did it with sheer courage and determination with lot of hard work. Have they done enough for the society? Barring few of them I am sure majority of them are selflessly working for their own self and minting money. We can ask them to come forward and discuss with management to include them as a trustee or a board member. They must adopt a school and look at the well-being of their society who is working closely for the education and their kids’ future.

Include in curriculums, Door to door survey’s in communities the students live in. Let them come up with questions they think to be asked in questionnaire and work on for the solution. Teachers should accompany and act as a facilitator. (Apt for middle and senior school students)

Assess and grade students for participation in awareness campaigns they did in a year? It could be related to environment such as waste management, avoiding maximum use of plastics, save water, unforeseen circumstances , basic needs of the people living in an area of campaign etc. (Accountability not just in a year but routine follow-up) reaching out to people, discuss with the community members and people take suggestions etc.)

Weekly once or twice meetings in the classrooms to discuss what’s happening around in the place they live in? Let one class be like that open for discussion where the teacher and students sat on the floor and discuss. Imagine the amount of improvements plan coming out from the young genius would definitely be remarkable.
