Hold On To Your Pain

I got out of a strenuous session of functional training. After three different workouts, in less than 24 hours, my muscles were sore… I could have popped a pain killer, and it would have ended all…

Declutter Diwali

As the delivery boy handed over the package, I received an instant gratification of being upgraded my style quotient. But alas, contrary to my expectations, nobody cared a dime when it was worn and so hence it prompted me to display some self love on Instagram where too, I was categorically ignored and hence I was ashamed of my own social acceptance .The piece of cloth found a safe passage to the already crowded wardrobe where it will spend the rest of its lifetime.

Now, this could be the state of affairs for many of us having spent decent amount of money on shopping on various big billion festive seasons on multiple channels and multiple emis

On a serious note, Indians have spent over 5418 billion rupees on clothes in 2018 comparing to 1924 billion in 2010.Of course the dispensable income and the earning age groups have widened, but did our saving patterns too? Count the number of shoes that you have to the ones which you are actually using, I for one have 5 pairs and I use VKC Pride Chappal usually!(:p).We have fallen for the steep discounts and feel good looks and amassed everything we wanted not necessarily needed. Of course E-commerce industry growth has provided livelihood to thousands and the funny thing is no industry will ever reach a saturation point in our country as there will be takers for anything at any point. Such is the social and economical disparity here .Cheap data has provided a level playing field and now everyone’s data is on sale.

As somebody who prods over the cibil reports of umpteen individuals, credit card out standings has always caught my eye. Credit card subscriber base and online lending companies have taken the center stage in lending now. With apps offering the loans at finger tips we are ruined by convenience of borrowing. The data from RBI suggest that the credit card business have grown multiple folds, 27% on average from 2015.The Personal loan market grew by 17% and average dispensable income grew by meager 11%. Clearly we spend more than we earn in our lives now.

The desire to acquire, hoard things ,memories ,beliefs and experiences is leading an already socially reclusive generation who can be easily manipulated to shoot, behead and commit hate crimes. When we ourselves are the actual products the companies sell, there is no way out.

Diwali brings us an opportunity to abstain and celebrate celibacy from “Buy Now” button. We all will be presented with lightning deals since the vendors have to clear of the 2019 stock and some of 2020 too. As a nation we are conditioned to be fascinated by Gods and Gandhi. Hence I picked Diwali.Ramzan is long gone ; Christmas is too far and black Friday deals are going to be crazy. But if you take a deep breath now, you know today is the day is do it,to log out from our shopping accounts. Lets distance ourselves from impulsive buying decisions.

We must evaluate the needs and the opportunity costs if we forego some of our wants and desires. The value of time, space, money and sleep is priceless .The first anecdote is a constant reminder that the possession of something we wanted does not guarantee self satisfaction nor does it improve self worth. This Diwali lets declutter the black mass and burn the Ravanan within.
