Why Sui?

by Ayudh

But First, What is Sui?

Yes. Billion with a B. And you’re probably thinking why?

Sui improves on other Layer 1 blockchains you have come to know and love (or hate) like Ethereum, Solana, or even Cardano (Ewww ikr). But, let me explain this from our perspective.

Well, we see Sui becoming the gaming blockchain because it provides the necessary infrastructure to make it happen!

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, it’s a clean slate with unlimited opportunity. There are no projects running 100% of the ecosystem. There’s no infrastructure yet. There are no standards. But, there’s technology available to onboard billions of users (for real).

That’s the experience we’re building together. And did we mention, we’re VC-Free? Yea, 100% community baby — unlike anyone in crypto.

But, enough about us for now… why do we think Sui has the tech to support these ambitious goals?

The Sui Infrastructure

For a seamless gaming experience on-chain, a blockchain needs to support an internet of assets, where assets can be moved around frictionlessly. And it must be infinitely scalable so that the chain can continue to keep up with increasing demand (As more and more games and gamers inevitably get onboarded into the Sui ecosystem). Further, it is also important to have instant confirmation and real finality very quickly.

In Mysten Lab’s own words — On Sui, “Your assets live directly in your account, not in someone else’s smart contract.” And Sui has “Horizontally scalable, instant finality, low fees.”

Sui also processes transactions more efficiently than other traditional blockchains. Traditional blockchains lump all transactions together and execute them one by one sequentially (regardless of whether they are token transfers or NFT transactions, etc). Sui organizes data into objects that are independent of each other, which means these objects can be executed in parallel. To the regular user, this leads to quicker transactions and lower fees!

And if that sounds too good to be true… don’t get us started about the developer experience!

Developer Experience

As I always say “Wherever developers go, follow!”.

The chain that can provide the best UX for developers will attract the best developers. This will lead to good projects being developed on the chain. Which subsequently attracts more users and more money into the ecosystem.

Sui uses Move as its programming language (different from e.g. Ethereum which uses Solidity or Solana which uses Rust). Move has been described as Solidity on steroids! It has been designed with safety and security in mind, it has built-in security to prevent a lot of the common smart contract security issues. This should make smart contract hacks, like the ones we have seen on other Layer 1 blockchains like Ethereum, Solana etc., less likely to happen in products and Dapps built on Sui.

We believe Sui, with Move, is one of the best new chains for developers right now. It is platform-agnostic, and enables common libraries, tooling, and developer communities across diverse blockchains with vastly different data and execution models.

And, we’re taking full advantage of it.

Last Words

Sui is a new Proof-of-Stake Layer 1 Blockchain that is looking to improve on the big established players like Ethereum, Solana, Avalanche etc. and it has some really cool new innovations that differentiate it from these traditional blockchains.

Welcome to the Future
