What To Do When Your Lunch Is Taken Away

Win Through Love, Not Revenge

The refrigerator in the pantry was the most valued piece of real estate in the whole office. Why? Because everyone’s packed lunch was there. Some put their salad in Tupperware, some sealed their sandwiches in Glad cling wrap, some had a McDonald's quarter pounder and coke in a doggy bag and so on. There were lots of leftovers that occupied the refrigerator too. So, if you came late to the office, you find little space for your lunch. Well, there was nothing wrong with having all the food there until one day, Amy shouted in anger, “Hey, who took my box of sushi?”

Now, you need to know Amy. She was our supervisor and not the nicest person in the office (you know what I mean?) When she looked around for a guilty face, there were immediate looks of innocence, denial & wonderment from everyone. Some were suddenly busy with their phones and computers. “OK, you low life people. Is this how you wanna play it? Fine.” We knew what she meant. Someone could have mistakenly taken her lunch (not likely) or someone wanted to spite her. She yanked open the refrigerator door again and grabbed the McDonald’s doggy bag. Then she snarled, “An eye for an eye” and strut off to her cubicle.

Bob was in shock. That was his lunch Amy took. Being a new hire and still on probation, he knew where he stood in the office food chain (pun intended). The next day, all the food items in the refrigerator were clearly labelled with names. Everyone made sure their lunch was not taken by mistake. Since the mystery of Amy’s missing sushi was not solved, an air of suspicion hung over the office.
