How contemplating our death can help us focus on important stuff

Death is such a taboo thing to think or talk about even though we are not immortals. Remembering we are going to die one day can help us get rid of the unnecessary in life and focus on things which matters and makes a difference.

A Greater Beauty

“The human quest for beauty is really a quest for the source of that beauty” Alistair McGrath.

I love nature, don’t you?

A beautiful mountain range with snowy peaks hiding behind wispy clouds, a wooded valley covered in pine and fir trees, a red-orange sun setting over a deserted beach.

Often those scenes of beauty just hit me, almost unexpected, even if I am actually out in a forest or on a beach somewhere.

There is something about the beauty locked up in nature. Suddenly we have almost a different perspective, that is, if we allow ourselves to stay in the moment and not resist that kind of inner tug. Do you know what I mean?

You see, the beauty can’t really be rationalised. It seems to stir us up, appeals to something deeper within, something that can’t be properly expressed.

Mostly we tend to think that the beauty in things is contained within them. A beautiful sunset is just that, a beautiful sunset. A gorgeous, shimmering lake is great to look at and then we look at something else. But what if the beauty in things actually pointed to a greater beauty. Beautiful things in nature were like a master artist had just got out a paint brush and started to create. And we were allowed the privilege to witness it.
