The Manchester Evening News has appointed Thomas Bristow as Deputy Football Editor.

Arriving from Mirror Online’s sports desk, Thomas joins the MEN having also previously worked in Editor roles at AP and Men’s Running Magazine.

The MEN football desk are coming off the back of a record January for digital audience, with Manchester City’s Premier League title challenge and United’s resurgence under caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer leading the agenda.

Thomas will support the MEN’s Head of Football Alice McKeegan, working closely with her team of writers across both clubs.

Alice said: “Tom joins at an exciting time for Manchester football with City and United both performing well on the pitch. He has a superb understanding of what football fans want to read about and we’re confident he will help us to improve our coverage of the clubs even more.”

MEN Editor-in-Chief Darren Thwaites said: “Tom joins us with a great pedigree and we’re looking forward to his contribution.

“Under Alice McKeegan’s leadership, we’ve grown our Manchester sports team by 25% in less than a year. It shows our ambition. The extra investment is driven by the results we’re getting from providing consistently brilliant coverage of United and City.”

Jon Birchall, Editor (Football) for Reach, said: “The MEN football team have performed phenomenally over the last 12 months and the addition of Tom will bolster an already excellent team. His creativity and experience will fit in perfectly in Manchester.”
