However, one meta skill dwarfs all others when it comes to being successful in data science.

Data science is still a relatively new and rapidly growing field.

The knowledge and tools used in industry are constantly changing.

It’s impossible to know everything (shout out to the ridiculous qualifications section of data science job postings).

So the best approach is to develop a strong foundation and then form “T-shaped skills”. Imagine the top of the T representing your base of knowledge, and the long stem representing a specific topic on which you go deep.

Over time, add more and more stems until you have a full quiver of T’s.
