Are The Internet and Social Media bad?

I was reading some JavaScript basics by mastermind Douglas Crockford and suddenly it dawned on me: the internet, computers, portable devices, ad infinitum are no more than methods of getting a thought or particle from one location over to another.

Well, let’s look at it the way I thought it. A machine at point A has 5 buttons, you press one and the machine at point B lights up that same duplicate button. That’s the basic concept of computers, or the internet for that matter. It’s the basic concept of ANYTHING code related. You see a pretty landscape at point A, you want to move it to point B, and there’s your Instagram feed. There’s your email. There’s your profile pic. Your messages. Anything. And it can get complex, real complex. The 5 button machine can become a QWERTY machine, and combinations of buttons can multiply over and over whereby a digital photo is really a combination of those buttons.
